Open Question: Can hearing aid whistle cause hearing loss?

For some unknown reason my left hearing aid is whistling and it's getting annoying, molds are good and fit well. My hearing aids are digital so I don't know what's really causing this whistle. My concern is can this whistle cause hearing loss if you continuously hear it whether it's loud or quiet?
